This European design competition called for entrants to design an entire 'town of the future' in the Markermeer lake which incorporates all the various components of the healthcare system.
The starting principle of our design was the full decentralization of healthcare facilities, whereupon each individual hospital or clinic would form an integral part of the local community. This decentralization is made possible by linking the healthcare functions themselves to the high-quality transport network. This network has three levels which are also to be seen in the healthcare sector: Collective (= chronic care), Casual ( = elective care) and Continuous ( = acute care).
